28 October 2026Parent guilt
I lost it and yelled at my toddler over shoes. They cried and I still feel sick about it. Have I done damage?
No. Every parent snaps sometimes. What matters for children is not a perfect parent but repair: coming back, saying sorry and reconnecting. That actually teaches them how to fix things after a fight.
Try this tonight
Once you're both calm, get down to their level: "I shouted. That wasn't okay, and it wasn't your fault. I'm sorry." Then a hug. Later, notice what tipped you over (tired, late, hungry) and plan for that moment.
When to check in
If you're shouting most days, feel constantly on edge or low, talk to your GP or health visitor. That's about support for you, not blame.
