Up every two hours to feed

My newborn wakes to feed every two hours, all night. Is something wrong?

No. Newborn stomachs are tiny, and waking often to feed, including through the night, is how they're built in the early weeks. It is exhausting, and it is also ordinary.

Try this tonight

Keep night feeds dim and boring: low light, a quiet voice, then straight back down. If there are two of you, split the night so each of you gets one solid stretch, even if that means a turn on the sofa.

When to check in

Call your midwife, health visitor or GP if your baby is hard to wake for feeds, has fewer wet nappies, isn't gaining weight, or you feel unable to cope.
