Tears at every nursery drop-off

My child cries and clings every single morning at drop-off. Am I doing the wrong thing?

No. Separation anxiety is a sign of a strong bond, and it's common up to about age 3, often returning after holidays or illness. Most children settle within minutes of the parent leaving.

Try this tonight

Keep goodbyes short and the same every day: one hug, one phrase ("I always come back after snack time"), then leave. Don't sneak out. Ask staff how long it lasted after you'd gone.

When to check in

Talk to the nursery and your GP if distress lasts all day, for weeks, or comes with changes in sleep or eating.
