17 October 2026Big feelings
My usually sweet toddler bit another child at nursery. Is this normal?
It's common between 1 and 3. Toddlers have big feelings and few words, and hitting or biting is often frustration, excitement or teething. It doesn't mean your child is unkind or that you've done something wrong.
Try this tonight
Block calmly and name it: "I won't let you hit. You're angry. You can stamp your feet." Turn your attention to the child who got hurt, and teach a replacement action when everyone is calm.
When to check in
Ask for support if it's frequent past age 3 to 4, getting worse, or you're struggling to keep others safe.

You're not alone.
